Various Sports Medicine Treatments We Offer
Our sports medicine team is comprised of physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians. This type of physician is an expert in nerve, muscle, and bone, and treats sports injuries that affect how people move. Indeed, we understand the complex biomechanics of the human musculoskeletal system.
A multimodal approach is utilized in the treatment of sports-related injuries. Some of those treatments include non-surgical options for musculoskeletal conditions. Examples of these sports medicine treatments include medications, joint injections, trigger point injections, prolotherapy, platelet rich plasma (PRP), epidural injections, bracing, ergonomic recommendations, training alternatives and strategies, therapy, and exercise prescriptions. The ultimate goal is to maximize the patient’s function and return the athlete back to their normal sports activity.
Once a condition is diagnosed and a plan is in place, our sports and musculoskeletal medicine doctors will stay in contact with your therapists. We prescribe a focused rehabilitation program with the best physical therapists in our community. The therapists will work with our doctors, and keep them informed about the patient’s progress. This team approach to sports-related medicine provides for a more customized treatment plan that will get the athlete back quicker to return to play.
We Emphasize Non-Surgical Treatments
Most musculoskeletal injuries can be treated effectively without surgery. Our sports and spine medicine physicians are invested in finding effective, non-surgical treatments and provide appropriate referrals, if necessary, for optimal care. Should surgical intervention be required, we will coordinate care with the best orthopedic specialists in the area.
We Take On A Team and Multimodal Treatment Approach
Your sports-related medicine professional will coordinate ongoing care with your therapists and surgical specialists, etc. Case managers, adjusters, and referring doctors are kept informed of your progress. Our physicians will keep all parties informed to move your recovery along as quickly as possible.
